AI Chat lets you create, modify, and enhance text expansion resources using artificial intelligence. Instead of typing resources manually, you can describe what you need in natural language, and AI will generate or modify the resource for you.

How to Use AI Chat

1. Open AI Chat from the resource editor.
2. Tell AI what you want to create or modify. For example: "Create a professional email template for customer support" or "Make this text more formal".
3. Review AI's response. AI generates or modifies the resource based on your request.
4. Ask AI to make adjustments, expand, shorten, or modify the content further if needed.
5. Once satisfied, save the AI-generated resource to your library. It's ready to use immediately.

AI Credits: Power Your AI Features

AI Credits are the currency used to power AI features in Lightning Assist. Each AI operation - such as generating content with AI Chat, enhancing text with AI Commands, or transcribing speech - consumes a certain amount of credits based on the complexity and length of the operation.

How AI Credits Work

• Purchase Credits: Buy AI credits in packages. Credits are added to your account and can be used for all AI features across Lightning Assist.
• Monitor Usage: View your AI usage in the AI Usage screen. See detailed statistics, credit consumption, and usage history.
• Automatic Consumption: Credits are automatically consumed when you use AI features. Each operation uses credits based on its complexity and length.
• Refill Anytime: Purchase additional credits whenever you need them. Credits don't expire and can be used at your own pace.

AI Usage Screen

The AI Usage screen provides detailed insights into your AI credit consumption:

• Credit Balance: See your current credit balance and remaining credits.
• Usage Statistics: View detailed statistics on credit consumption by feature, date, and operation type.
• Usage History: Review your AI usage history to understand consumption patterns.
• Purchase Credits: Buy additional credits directly from the AI Usage screen.
• Speech-to-Text Settings: Configure speech-to-text settings including opting out of saving transcribed text in the database.

How to Buy AI Credits

There are two places where you can buy AI credits:

1. Inside the Lightning Assist app you can see the AI Credits card in the left sidenav. Click "Buy AI Credits".
2. Within a resource editor modal, toggle on the "Open AI Assistant" button and you can see the AI Credits card in the right. Click "Buy AI Credits".

Select a credit package that fits your needs. Larger packages often offer better value.

Speech-to-Text with AI

Lightning Assist's Speech-to-Text feature uses advanced AI models to transcribe your speech with high accuracy. Use push-to-talk to speak instead of type, and watch your words appear instantly in any application.

• Push-to-Talk: Hold the built-in key (Ctrl + Window Key on Windows; Ctrl + Cmd on macOS) to speak, release to transcribe. Simple and intuitive.
• AI-Powered Accuracy: Uses advanced AI models (OpenAI Whisper) for highly accurate transcription, even with background noise.
• Real-Time Processing: See your words appear as you speak, with minimal delay.
• Punctuation & Formatting: Automatically handles punctuation, capitalization, and natural language formatting.
• Universal Compatibility: Works in any desktop application where you can type.

Speech-to-Text Credit Consumption

Speech-to-Text uses credits based on the model you choose:

• Enhanced Model: Uses 0.333 credits per second of audio. Higher accuracy, better for complex speech.
• Mini Model: Uses 0.167 credits per second of audio. Faster, more cost-effective for simple speech.

Speech-to-Text Settings

Configure speech-to-text settings in the AI Usage screen:

• Model Selection: Choose between Enhanced and Mini models based on your needs and credit budget.
• Opt Out of Saving Transcribed Text: Configure speech-to-text to not save transcribed text in the database. This helps with privacy and reduces storage costs.
• Visualization: Customize how speech-to-text appears when you're recording. See visual indicators and recording status.

How to Use Speech-to-Text

1. Open any application where you want to type.
2. Hold your push-to-talk key and speak naturally. You'll see a visual indicator that you're recording.
3. Release the key to stop recording and trigger transcription.
4. Your spoken words are transcribed and pasted directly into the active application.
